Do you know the difference between your innate wisdom and your ordinary mind?

The true nature of the mind is often described as clear light. In the Tibetan Buddhist view, the clear light of mind is a thread of continuity that streams through life and continues on after death.

In the place of our ‘innate wisdom‘ our ‘Ordinary Mind’

sky like nature the place of suffering

it is the core of our being grasping-lonely-fearful-angry

boundless-indestructable the ordinary you-superficial

a good heart-infinitely loving confused habitual conditioning

true nature of our being discursive mind

free from suffering limited by habits and customary beliefs

perceives things as they are attachment to comfort or pleasure

It always helps when I remember how they differ, in order to know my mind, my thoughts and actions in order to live my life most effective and true to my heart.

I awoke this morning to a dream…a small bear had entered my home and the Mama Bear came to the front door to retrieve it. I quickly slammed the door between us and ran further into the house to get away, finding a strategic place where the bear could not enter.

Now I find that the strength of Bear is the power of introspection. Bear seeks honey, or the sweetness of truth, within the hollow of an old tree. In the winter, when the Ice Queen reigns and the face of death is upon the Earth, Bear enters the womb-cave to hibernate, to digest the year’s experience. To accomplish the goals and dreams that we carry, the art of introspection is necessary.

So why not savour the essence of Winter and be in it rather than struggle with it, use the time to calm the internal chatter entering into the place of silence and enter in the place of dream time and imagination and be reborn in the Spring to turn your goals to concrete realities.

To help serve the world out of wisdom and compassion is to participate most effectively in the preservation of the planet. It is important to recognize that ‘spiritual training’ is essential not solely for monks and nuns but for all people, whatever their faith or way of life. The nature of spiritual development is intensely practical, active, and effective. (Sogyal Rimpoche)

What do you do for your ‘personal spiritual training’? Could be walking everyday, playing a musical instrument, meditating, being aware of your thoughts…

Make it a daily practice.
